Mascara Madness Shopping List

Next to the Sephora fall VIB sale (with its sweet, sweet 20% off) my most-anticipated beauty sale of the year is Nordstrom Mascara Madness. For the most part I’m completely fine surviving on free travel size mascaras – current inventory: 16 – but in the past few months I’ve found a couple that are worthy of a full size purchase. I still don’t like to pay full price for them (does anyone?) so buy-2-get-1-free feels like a decent compromise. I unearthed an Instagram post from Nordstrom Menlo Park that confirms the sale is happening on May 23, so let the madness begin!

1. Chanel Le Volume ($32)

I didn’t expect much from this when I got a sample because I felt like Chanel Inimitable Intense didn’t quite live up to the hype. Whatever though, you give me free samples and I’m going to try them. Pleasantly surprised. My opinion on mascara is MOAR VOLUME and this one lived up to the name. The only worry I have is that the wand in the sample I got bears very little resemblance to the one in the stock photo. I’m willing to take the risk, will report back.

2. Dior Addict It-Lash ($27.50)

Love at first swipe, here. I actually wanted to run out and buy this within a few days of breaking into the mini size of it, but I (somehow) managed to restrain myself. This witchcraft created the most fluttery perfect lashes I think I’ve ever had. I have a creeping suspicion that it’ll start drying out a little faster than usual since the consistency is a little paste-like, but I also predict it’ll be a use-it-every-day-until-it’s-gone type of purchase.

3. A blind leap

For the past couple rounds of mascara madness I used my bonus mascara to pick up something completely new, uncharted eyelash territory. Either something I’m not likely to get a sample of, something I’ve been waffling on, or just a totally impractical one. There are a few contenders-

Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat Lashes ($29) – I haven’t tried as many things from CT as I’ve wanted to, mainly because we don’t have a Nordstrom here (Charlotte you should totally sell at Sephora too, plz k thx).

Hourglass Film Noir ($28) –  This is the one I’ve been going back and forth on for a long time. Really want to try it, but I feel like I could hold out and eventually get one as a sample/gift with purchase. We’ll see.

Guerlain Le 2 de Guerlain ($38) – The two wands are sort of a novelty, and I like my sample of their Cils d’Enfer well enough. Not sure I’m crazy about the oddly-shaped gold packaging though. I know that’s a completely arbitrary reason to buy/not buy something, but I didn’t claim there’d be any scientific reasoning behind this.

Guerlain Noir G ($52) – Ooooh, dat packaging. So pretty, and I love the Rouge G lipstick case. But, that’s awfully expensive for mascara (the rational part of my brain is like ‘o.0 whut?’) and what if I don’t like it enough to want to buy a refill? I’m not sure if I can handle this level of commitment.

Sisley So Intense ($67) – So I’m definitely not going to buy this, but I really want to know what’s so great about a $65+ mascara. Kind of in the same way that I’d love to try a $500 bottle of wine. But in the venn diagram of “my realistic budget” and “expensive stuff I’d like to buy” neither of those things is part of the intersection. Maybe it’s better if I never know what I’m missing.

Ooooooor – does anyone have other favorites I should know about? Recommendations welcome.
