Let’s Hear It For The Girls – PMD Beauty For Your Décolleté

[sponsoredpost]

This post is sponsored by PMD & the PRIMP network; all opinions are my own.

Beauty magazines have been warning us for years that all the anti-aging face cream in the world won’t help much with that youthful glow if you don’t take care of the rest of your skin. I’ve always had sort of a ‘well, duh’ attitude toward those columns because, well – duh. Apparently I was being a little too cocky though. I keep to a fairly strict routine for my face – sunscreen, cleanser, retinoid treatments, moisturizer, never sleep in makeup – so I feel like I’m doing ok there, but it turns out I’ve neglected the rest of my skin shamefully. Over past year my outdoor commute to work (walking or biking every day) plus my preference for scoop-neck tops has caught up with me, and my chest is starting to show serious signs of aging – freckles, uneven skin tone, fine lines (doesn’t help that I’m a side sleeper). Pretty much the works. Aside from my renewed commitment to using sunscreen every day because I’m not terribly interested in getting melanoma, I’m giving home microdermabrasion a go to get rid of those sun-induced cosmetic annoyances.

This is where the PMD Personal Microderm device comes in. I’ve always thought microdermabrasion would be interesting – having dead layers exfoliated off and suctioned away is so much faster than waiting for your skin to get around to it. The suction also increases circulation and stimulates the healing process to help your skin renew itself. As much as I’ve wanted to try it in the past, the price tag was holding me back. For a long time you could only get it done by a professional, which meant making an appointment with an esthetician or dermatologist. In other words, lots of $$$ involved, plus trekking to their location once every week or two.

With PMD, you can do it at home for a fraction of the cost. The device with a starter set of discs is $159 (except for you – you get 20% off with the code PRIMP20) and disc refills are only $20. Even with groupon deals I couldn’t find any spa packages for less than that. Not to mention with the PMD I can do it in 5 minutes without changing out of my ratty pajama pants. Let me tell you, I absolutely LOVE this trend of medical spa treatments making their way into home devices if only because I love my jammies.

The box has everything you need to get started – the device and power supply, of course, plus seven discs in various sizes and intensities, and two different tops that correspond to the disc size. Each disc can be used 3-4 times and you gradually move up in strength. Since you only do the treatment once a week, the starter set should last a good while.

Here’s a lovely ‘before’ photo of what we’re working with. Like I mentioned, lots of freckles, uneven tone, some fine lines and a very very obvious and unintentional tan line.

So far I’ve only done a couple treatments, but my first impression is that it’ll be pretty easy to keep up the routine. Since I’m using it on a larger area, I started with the larger opening top and the large gray (ie, gentlest) disc. The suction isn’t uncomfortable, but it’s stronger than I expected and makes my skin bright red for about 30 minutes after using it. Definitely not a candidate for my morning routine. Of course, that helps me see which parts I’ve already gone over so I don’t make multiple passes over the same spot – that can cause irritation or even scabbing. Other than the redness I haven’t had any irritation, so I’ll move up through the other intensity discs as I keep using it. The process takes about five minutes so it’s one of the faster beauty gadgets I’ve used, and I follow it up with a moisturizer.

Like any anti-aging skin treatment, it takes up to 8-12 weeks for the PMD to reach its full effect. After all – to quote their FAQs – it uses science, not magic. I’ll be checking back with some results in a month or so. If you’re dying to see the results now though, Sissi from beauty4free2u has been using hers on her face and her skin looks awesome.

Have you tried microdermabrasion before? I’d love to hear how your experience with it was!
