Rouge Bunny Rouge Fire Drops: the no-mess loose pigment

Rouge Bunny Rouge Fire Drops Caress of Mink

Number one reason I almost never use loose products – it’s a huge mess. Containers that are too small to get a brush into, a big pile o’ glitter so you end up getting too much (and then dropping it everywhere), a fine coating of powder over everything in your makeup bag when you travel… the list goes on. So to be honest, I probably wouldn’t have even looked at the RBR Fire Drops pigments if I hadn’t been swatching absolutely everything. I’m glad I did, though, because when I saw Caress of Mink it took me about .02 seconds to decide I needed it.

The Fire Drops container is pretty different from any other ones I’ve seen – very literally a glitter wand. I just pop the wand out and pat it directly onto my eyelid. One dip into the jar brings up plenty of product for one eye.  Sometimes a few specks will escape on the way, but I have way less fallout with the wand than with a regular jar & brush.

The black cap on the jar doesn’t snap on quite as well as I’d like it to, but the inner seal is very tight. Even after being shaken no bits of eyeshadow escaped, so I’d feel ok about traveling with these (though realistically I never bring single shades with me on trips).

Color

Yup, I definitely have a neutral eyeshadow problem. Caress of Mink is a deep brown (such a poetic description, I know) that pairs well with… all the things, pretty much. In some lights it has a golden cast, but in others it pulls almost olive.

Another angle to show the sheen

Even though it’s described as “loose glitter pigment,” it really isn’t all that glittery. Shimmery, sure, but we’re not talking about the kind of huge glitter chunks that could shred your corneas if they happen to get in your eyes. There’s a nice shimmer-to-pigment ratio so it’s not an evening-only product.

The texture is fine-milled and very smooth. I like to use the wand to place it, then go over it with a very soft blending brush to distribute the product; then I go over the edges with a firmer brush to blend it out. I’ve been happy with the wear time – no unusual creasing or fading when I wear it over primer (I haven’t tested it without, because nothing stands a chance against my lids without primer).

In Short: I’ve changed my mind, guess I do like loose shadows after all!
