Stash-Shopping Update

[prsample][afflink]

A couple weeks ago I decided to skip the Sephora sale and give some unloved products in my makeup stash a second chance. Now that they’ve had a fair shot I’ve made some decisions on whether they deserve to stay in the rotation. After all, I use makeup because it makes me happy and if it doesn’t then well…. bye.

Chantecaille Poudre Delicate – After a few infuriating attempts at using this, I know it’s getting tossed because it’s never been able to recover from when I accidentally shattered it. Every time I open it, it’s like beige confetti everywhere (worst. confetti. ever.). Even if it weren’t for that, I just don’t like it as much as my other powders. It leaves a matte, flat finish that makes my skin look older than it is.
Verdict: Into the trashcan

Tarte Timeless Smoothing Primer – I disliked the texture of this when I first got it as a PR sample, but after using it more lately I realized if I rub it between my fingers to warm it up first it goes on a lot easier. It also does a bang-up job of covering lines and pores. Unfortunately it makes it a little difficult to blend thick foundations (like the Lancome Teint Idole that I’m currently using), and clogs my pores if I wear it too many days in a row (which is normal for me with thick silicone primers so no surprise there).
Verdict: I think it’s a good product, but not right for me. I’ll probably pass this along to someone else.

Shiseido Luminizing Satin Face Color, Tearose – As I thought before, the main thing holding me back from this blush is the color. I usually wear warm-toned lipsticks, and this cool plummy pink just doesn’t work well with a lot of them. I really love the light sheen and how nicely it blends though, and it’s one of the few cool-toned blushes I have.
Verdict: I’ll be holding onto this one.

Hourglass Opaque Rouge, Canvas – I remember not be totally head over heels about these lipsticks when I first tried them, but geez. I don’t know if maybe this one has dried out a little bit or what, but it’s almost unwearable. And by almost, I mean I’d have to really really want to wear that exact color. The wand is too flexible to get an even line, it applies unevenly and drags at my lips and the actual lipstick starts to crumble off within a couple hours. Ew.
Verdict: Another one for the trash.

Armani Fluid Sheer, #2 – Eh, I’m still not sure about this one. On the one hand, if you use a tiny amount it’s a really nice cheekbone highlight, but in this packaging I always end up getting out WAY more of it than I need to use. The full size comes in a pump so I’m not sure if that’s any better.
Verdict: Nice product, but the deluxe sample tube makes it a little annoying to use. Maybe one of my sisters will like it better.

Lorac Pro Palette – I have a new appreciation for how nice the shimmers sit without drawing attention to my wrinkly eyelids. There are still some colors that I don’t really fit well into my all-neutral-all-the-time eye makeup routine (Gold and Garnet, I’m looking at you), but I’ll definitely be busting this palette out more often.
