Review: Laura Mercier Creme Eye Liner in Noir
What is a complete eyeliner noob doing writing an eyeliner review? It’s a fact that I very rarely wear eyeliner – I’m always running late in the morning and I’m still at the point that it takes me a little while to get it just right. Sometimes it’s tempting just to throw my hands up, so finding an eyeliner that’s easy to use is vital. Which brings us to: Laura Mercier Creme Eye Liner in Noir.
This liner comes in a fairly standard glass pot, which has the Laura Mercier logo on the lid. It doesn’t come with a brush, so you’ll need to pick up a separate one if you don’t have one already (I use the Hakuhodo K007, pictured). I have two miiiiinor annoyances with it. For one, it’s just a little too tall to fit in a slim Muji drawer, so I can’t store it with all my other eyeliners. The second one relates to storage too. I like to store cream products upside down to help keep them from drying out, but the lid is very slightly rounded, so it wobbles around a bit noisily if I bump the table. Lucky for me, storing it upside down doesn’t seem to be necessary! The cap is made of very sturdy plastic that can be screwed on very tightly, unlike some flimsy caps that break if you tighten them too much. I’ve had it open for at least 8 months or so, and it’s still just as fresh and creamy as it was the day I opened it. The pot holds .12oz/3.4g.
This stuff is black, that’s all there is to it. Not dark grey, not charcoal. Deep, dark, opaque, matte black. Of course, if black isn’t your thing, it also comes in Violet, Canard, Cobalt, Espresso and Indigo.
Texture, application & wear
As I mentioned, I don’t have time for eyeliner products that are tricky to apply, and this one has been amazing in that area. A light dab of the brush picks up the product with no need to swirl the brush or ‘scoop’ it out. Then it transfers effortlessly onto the skin – and it’s very opaque, so you only need a few dips of the brush, depending on the look you’re doing. My favorite thing is the wear, though. It sets after a few seconds (nice for my hooded lids) and doesn’t move all day long, regardless of oily lids or watery eyes.
In Short: This eyeliner is very easy to use, and (dare I say?) perfect, even for a beginner like me.
