Things that apparently exist (& a beauty addict tip): Evian Mineral Water Spray

[cf-shortcode plugin=”acf” field=”affiliate_link”]

One of the oldest, cheapest tricks in the makeup book is spritzing your face with water. It keeps your foundation from looking powdery, adds some moisture to your skin, and some swear by it for making makeup wear longer (I can’t confirm or deny that claim). Plus it just plain old feels nice, especially if it’s hot out. Well, it’s come to my attention that the purveyors of fine water want in on this niche market for their product, and so you get: Evian Mineral Water Spray ($17.50 for 10.1oz).

Evian Mineral Water Spray

When I saw this, I had three thoughts in rapid succession:

  1. Uhhhh, whut?
  2. Someone on the Evian marketing team is a damn genius.
  3. I bet someone somewhere has actually paid for this.

It’s not even like it’s some special formulation – according to the product page on Sephora, it’s Evian water propelled by nitrogen. That’s it! To put things in perspective, there’s a seller on Amazon who has a 12-pack of 1.5 liter Evian bottles (that’s a little over 608 oz, for those keeping track) listed for $29. Sooo…. overpriced much? And this little guy doesn’t appear to be refillable, even. To be fair, I haven’t used this so it may be completely amazing, but honestly, I just can’t even believe it exists.

So, as a beauty addict tip for the day, I’d like to offer an alternative thought.

Purse Atomizer

Pick up a funnel-fill atomizer ($10 from Amazon) and fill ‘er up with your favorite mineral water. Or, ya know, tap water if you want. Use until empty. Repeat process for the rest of your life, or until you misplace the atomizer. It’s cheap, it’s reusable (think of all the landfill space you’re saving!) and unlike Evian’s version, it’s TSA-friendly and will fit in your purse easily.

Have you tried the Evian spray? Am I completely wrong about it? Feel free to leave your money-saving beauty tips below (don’t be stingy)!

Do atomizers have a really fine, even spray? That’s really key for facial mists.

I love facial mists, but I stick with ones that have a purpose (hydrating or makeup-setting) – not just water!

The atomizer I have has a pretty nice spray – but I’m sure they probably vary.

Avene and La Roche-Posay also have thermal water sprays and they’re pretty cheap, I only stock up when it’s a French Skincare month so I don’t feel gipped on the price. I like using them to “set” and just refresh my face.

$17 for a spray is a bit high though.

I will say that I’ve actually used the facial waters as well. I got a bottle of Vichy Thermal Water in a beauty bag/box somewhere along the line and I will admit, it was really nice. I think it’s the matter of convenience and the aerosol/propellant that makes it nice. Just hold down a nozzle and you get an endless mist of cool water. I don’t think I’d buy the Evian, but probably the cheaper ones.

Ok so first I laughed my ass off and secondly thought hmmmm, I have bought one bottle of overpriced Avene and used it and then went to the drugstore and bought a gallon of mineral water and put it into a fine misted atomizer and it worked just fine! So it all depends on your taste and if you are a brand snob :) Great post, loved how you brought the subject up!!!
