FOTD: Summer concert makeup

Probably the best thing about summer, in my opinion, is live music. There are always a bunch of great shows; sometimes so many that I can’t actually go to all of them. I’m terribly disappointed right now because one of the local music festivals is going to have a ton of bands I want to see – and it just happens to be the same weekend that I leave for vacation. Apparently they were unaware that they’re supposed to consult me before planning these things.

On Friday we went to see Broken Bells, which by the way was an amazing show. Difficulty: outdoor show, Kentucky summer, after a thunderstorm. The rain cooled things off a little bit (I’m so glad it wasn’t 90 degrees out) but the humidity was still about a million percent. So I did the only logical thing and threw every long-wear product I have onto my face.

Face:

Rouge Bunny Rouge Metamorphoses Mattifying Primer – my skin isn’t nearly as oily as it was, say, last summer, but it still gets a bit of shine when it’s warm out. This isn’t necessarily the most matte primer I’ve ever used, but it does a good job.

Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation – I still had a teeny tiny bit of this left from last summer, and it’s still my favorite matte oil-control foundation. The shade I have (Sand) is a tad dark since I’ve been better about wearing sunscreen, so I had to blend it down onto my neck/chest just a bit. Totally worth it, because I’m pretty sure this stuff is as budge-proof/shine-proof as they come. I’ll be heading back to Sephora soon to re-match myself and pick up a new bottle, because I’m not sure I can go through the rest of the summer without it. For the curious, I’m around NW25/Chanel B30/YSL B40, with very slightly cool undertones.

Armani Master Corrector (pink) and Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer (Light) – for covering up the undereye circles that plague me.

NARS Deep Throat blush – super summery, and the wear time on these is amazing.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder (Mood Light) – the pink in this one helped tone down the yellow tones in my slightly-mismatched foundation, and gives a little bit of glow without being shiny.

Eyes:

NARS Smudge-Proof Eyeshadow Base – this is still the best primer I’ve used for oily lids.

Laura Mercier Caviar Stick in Rose Gold (lid) and Grey Pearl (crease) – I always reach for these when I want my eyeshadow to stay put.

Charlotte Tilbury Color Chameleon in Dark Pearl (outer corner/lower lash line) – like the Caviar Sticks, this stuff stays put.

Laura Mercier Creme Eyeliner in Noir – this was sort of a wear test; will wings stand up to high humidity and watery eyes (thanks a lot, allergies)? Yes and yes.

Lorac Pro Palette 2 Beige (lower lash line/inner corner) – I was going to use LM Rose Gold for my highlights, but then the mail carrier brought me my new Pro palette and I couldn’t resist.

Anastasia Brow Wiz in Ebony – a long-time favorite of mine that doesn’t run or fade, even if I get super-sweaty. I used a dab of my NARS eye primer under it, just in case.

Chanel Inimitable Intense mascara – this one does have a tendency to flake a little bit, but it holds a curl nicely.

Lips:

L’Oreal Aqua Lacquer in Rose On and On – I wanted something that would stay on for a long time and not be fussy.

I’m happy to report that by the time we got home, nothing had smudged, smeared, or faded (except my lipstick – I did reapply once). I was especially happy with how the RBR primer/Hourglass foundation combo handled the heat and humidity; even without blotting, it still looked pretty fresh by the end of the night.

What are your summer staples to keep your face from melting?

I would love to see a picture of your eyes with the rose gold and grey pearl caviar sticks! It might convince me I need rose gold too. =)

Unfortunately I didn’t take an eye closeup of this one, but there was a pic with Rose Gold/Grey Pearl on my Caviar Stick review! You can see it here.
