Happy Festivus! An Airing of Grievances

Festivus 2015

It’s almost time for a 2015 favorites post (or a few, I’m bad at picking favorites!) but today is December 23rd. I’m not really a fan of Seinfeld (I think if my husband had known this before we started dating I’d still be single) but I love me some Festivus. Consider this my airing of grievances, ie, the biggest fails of 2015. In no particular order….

Festivus 2015 Neutrogena

Neutrogena Naturals Makeup Remover

I’m normally against any sort of marketing that promotes chemical fear – in fact, it’s the number one reason I turn down product samples. So normally I ignore the ‘all natural’ section of the grocery store skincare aisle, but I had tried pretty much every other makeup remover there. And it is a perfect example of ‘all natural’ not equaling ‘better for you.’ Even though this stuff claims to be ‘developed for the gentle eye area’ it burned my eyes worse than anything I can remember, including soap and hot pepper juice. According to the instagram comments I’m not the only one either. This is one of the few products I’ve ever done an FDA adverse event report for.

Ulta Artistry Kit Eyeshadow Palettes

Ulta Artistry Kit Eyeshadows

I already did a full review here, but I had to include these because the fail, it was epic. The blue palette has the distinction of being the worst eyeshadow I can ever remember using. I’ll stop here with this one, because if you can’t say anything nice….

Black eyeliner comparison

Marc Jacobs Magic Marc’r

I had high hopes for the MJ Magic Marc’r, but they were dashed when I actually used it. The felt tip skips and drags, and the tip frayed almost instantly. Then the eyeliner itself cracks and crumbles on my lids. I was glad this was a free mini.

Festivus 2015 Formula X Sheer Strenth

Formula X Sheer Strength

Another free mini, and once again, one I’m glad I didn’t pay for. I’m sure the Formula X Sheer Strength polishes are usually fine – at least, I’ve liked most of their regular polishes – but this pale pink one doesn’t work for me at all. I can’t find the shade name anywhere on the bottle. All I know is, it makes my fingernails look completely dead. Maybe I can use it for a corpse bride thing for Halloween next year or something.

Festivus 2015

Macy’s coupons

It isn’t a product, but an honorable mention goes to Macy’s and their terrible, terrible coupons. Around my birthday I had a Macy’s gift card, about $100 in Plenti points and a fancy schmancy coupon that I was totally going to use for a KitchenAid mixer, which I’ve been wanting since the first time I burned out a motor on a hand mixer. I used to work at Macy’s eons ago, and coupon exclusions were the number one thing people used to yell at us about (seriously, want to see people flip their shit, work retail during the holidays). So I really should have remembered that their ‘coupons’ are basically useless – it would have saved me some irritation. I did still get my mixer though (and it’s amazing).

I think I used a slightly different cleanser from that Neutrogena range and it sucked!!! I threw it out.
