Wayne Goss brushes – the unboxing

It feels like we’ve been waiting for years to see the new Wayne Goss brushes. First the anticipation of the big launch, and then a little bit more waiting for the individual brushes to be available. The brushes absolutely flew off the shelves when they were released earlier this week, but I was lucky enough to snag a couple of them before they sold out. A full review will have to wait until I’ve had a chance to, ya know, use them, but in the meantime I thought you might like to see some unboxing photos.

I got mine from Beautylish, being in the US and all. They’ll be available to the rest of the world through Love Make Up.

Everything came packed up neatly in tissue paper.

Inside was a card that pretty accurately describes the situation.

And they even included a personalized note for me. I’m not sure if they do this for all orders or just first-timers. In any case, it was nice, despite the overzealous use of hashtags.

The brushes were wrapped in black tissue and tied with a grosgrain ribbon, which I thought was a nice touch.

Each one was in its protective plastic sleeve to keep it scratch-free and pristine in transit.

Once I got done unwrapping all the layers I finally got to pet them! These are the 01 (foundation) and 04 (medium pointed crease) brushes. I don’t want to get too ahead of myself, but I will say my initial reaction is that I’m pretty impressed with the quality, and I can’t wait to start using them!

I haven’t seen anything yet on when they’ll be back in stock, but each brush’s page on Beautylish has a button where you can sign up to be notified when they’re available again. The Love Make Up site, however, predicts the end of October.

Will you be getting some of Wayne’s new brushes (or have you already)? Tell us which ones in the comments!

Mine arrived this morning (in time for me to use them to apply my makeup even!) and I really like them. I don’t think they’re equivalent to Chikuhodo but they’re really good and worth the price.

I got 03 & 04. I really thought about getting 01 but was thinking it might be a little redundant since I have a Hakuhodo G5553. For the life of me I still can’t figure out the hair type of the eye brushes and it’s driving me nuts. It doesn’t feel as soft as grey/red/Kazan squirrel hair… What do you think? Maybe mid-range quality grey squirrel but I think it was priced too low for that.

Do you still think 01 is goat? I can’t imagine it being anything else.

Not to spam your page or anything but I just posted some pictures of the brushes on my blog, Jillicious Cosmetics.

I was actually looking at the Hakuhodo G555x (hadn’t decided which one) when these were announced, so I decided to get the Goss one instead.

The 04 hair looks and feels very similar to my blue squirrel Hakuhodos, but honestly I don’t have enough different types of squirrel brushes to say for sure. All of mine (so far!) are blue aside from one pine squirrel blush brush. I think I can safely say the WG’s aren’t pine squirrel though :-) The 01 I’m pretty sure is white goat/synthetic duo fiber. The Beautylish page doesn’t mention it having some synthetic mixed in, but Love Make Up does. When I do my review I’m going to do some comparison photos of brushes I have that I think are similar/same hair types.

Thanks for the extra pictures! By the way, I’m totally jealous of your G5527. I keep almost getting that every time I order from Hakuhodo but I feel like it would be hard to justify since I already have the G5528.

Thanks for checking my pictures out. I’ve only used the G5553 (goat/polyester mix) a handful of times. It’s nice, I just reach for others more.
Honesty, I think the G5527 is one of my top 3 brushes of all time. I can’t get over the craftsmanship of it. There’s not a hair out of place and it is so soft yet able to pick up a lot of product.

I’ve been using my Goss brushes all weekend and I’m liking them more all the time. They’re really multi-purpose and after seeing Michelle’s comparison/review vs. the Chikuhodo equivalent I’m even more excited about picking up 02 ASAP.

Very odd that Wayne hasn’t said what hair is used in his brushes. Why not? What is he hiding?
When purchasing products we like to know what we are buying, don’t we?
I buy only if I know what something is made from.
    Same goes for these brushes.
Loads of people have asked him over and over but he is as tight lipped as ever.

I agree I would definitely like to know the hair types (just because I’m curious!), but as long as they work well and are well-made I’m happy!
